Kontakt Requires Native Access to Continue

Native Instruments sound libraries are "instruments" that load into software like Kontakt. For instance, Alicia's Keys is a sound library, and Kontakt is its host software, which means, to use it, the library needs to be loaded within Kontakt Player beforehand.
However, not all Native Instruments expansions use sound libraries. For example, Form is a synthesizer and does not have a sound library, but it's still an instrument that loads into Reaktor 6. Other products like Absynth 5, FM8, and Massive are also synthesis-based and are virtual instruments that don't have external sound libraries.
Many Native Instruments sound libraries take up a lot of hard drive space. It's best to store them on either an external drive or a separate internal drive. Installing libraries to the same hard drive as your operating system will decrease performance and take up space that you should allot for other software. For example, Kontakt's Factory Library is over 23 GB, so it adds up the more sound libraries you install.

Native Access and library content
Native Access allows you to activate, install and update your Native Instruments products. Your content will be downloaded and installed to whatever location you choose in the Native Access Preferences window. To install your content, you will need the required space in both the Download and Content locations.
For example, installing Sessions Strings Pro 2 will need at least 35 GB in your downloads folder and install location. Once the content is installed, the files in your download location will be removed.
- Correctly format new hard drives on your PC or Mac before installing your Native Instruments sample libraries.
- Create a folder with an obvious name to store your libraries (Native Instruments Libraries, Komplete Samples, Instrument Libraries, etc.)
- Have enough space for your software in both Download and Content locations (more below). Once installed, the software will only take up space in the Content location.

Locate Kontakt and Reaktor sound libraries
When you launch your Native Instruments software for the first time, you will likely see a message indicating that you must rebuild the Sound Database. This is normal because the software needs to index all of the recently installed sound libraries and sound banks.
For Native Instruments sound libraries to show up and load in host apps like Kontakt or Reaktor, they must be located in the Content location directory in Native Access' preferences. Once the content location preferences are updated, any new sound libraries will be installed in that directory. Update Native Access content location
- Click the person icon and select Preferences.
- For Download location, select where you want your downloads to show up.
- For Content location, select where you want to install your sample libraries.
Sound libraries from third-party vendors (not Native Instruments) will prompt you to select the content location upon installation. You can also update their directories afterward by locating the product in the Not installed area of Native Access and then clicking Add Library for your product. Library content default installation location
If you can't find a library's content folder, double-check Native Access' default install locations for Windows (C: > Users > Public > Documents) or macOS (Macintosh HD > Users > Shared). If the library is there, move the folder to the Content location directory we just updated and then refresh Native Access.

Relocate missing sound content
If your product's library is missing or isn't seen by Native Access, the library will not load into its player, and an error message will display. To fix this issue, you'll need to "repair" the library path with Native Access or locate the library in the host's app or plug-in.
If your library was simply removed from Kontakt, you need to update Kontakt's preferences to make it viewable again. Check out this helpful article from Native Instruments to make your Kontakt library visible again.
If your library is still not showing up, try updating the Content location in Native Access' Preferences window (mentioned previously) and then restart Native Access. When Native Access relaunches, click the refresh button near the top right corner and check that your product indicates Full Version.
- Native Access' Content location is incorrect > Update and refresh Native Access preferences
- Library content was moved > Repair/relocate library via Native Access
- Library content was deleted > Reinstall library via Native Access
- The hard drive is not detected > Reconnect hard drive or try another USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt port
Repair Native Access content location
If many libraries need to be repaired, scroll up to How to Locate Sound Libraries and update the Native Access preferences first. If only a few products need repair, follow these steps to repair their library paths.
- Launch the Native Access app.
- Locate the product in question and click Repair. Then, choose Relocate.
- Click Browse and select the product's library content folder. Then, click Relocate.

Select content location before installing
If you cannot find your library content at all, you may need to reinstall the library. Before you do, make sure the Content location in the Native Access Preferences window is the same folder where all your other Native Instruments libraries are located.
Locating library content not found in Kontakt
You can also repair the library path within the Kontakt app/plug-in by reselecting the Library Content folder. Once done, the content will then be scanned and loaded into Kontakt. Follow these steps to locate your library content manually.
- Under your missing library content, click Locate. Then, select Browse for Folder.
- Navigate to your library's content folder and click Open.
Missing library content within DAW software
If you get an error about "missing library content" when opening a DAW session, save and close your session. Next, open Native Access and repair any libraries with missing content. Last, refresh and close Native Access and then restart your DAW session.
